The Three Valleys Community Rail Partnership brings together local people, groups and organisations from across Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Cardiff, all connected by the railway lines that run through the heart of our communities.

Formed in 2025 and hosted by Voluntary Action Merthyr Tydfil, we are part of the national Community Rail network and are supported by Transport for Wales.

Our role is to help communities have a voice on rail, celebrate the unique places along our routes and encourage more people to travel sustainably by train.

Through community-led projects, events and partnerships, we work to raise awareness of our local railways, support well-being, inclusion and local economies, and ensure the railway continues to deliver long-term benefits for both residents and visitors to the region.

Community at the heart

We work with local people and organisations to ensure communities have a real voice about their train services and play an active role in shaping projects in the Three Valleys region.

Sustainable travel

By promoting rail as an accessible, affordable and environmentally friendly way to travel, we can help reduce car dependency while encouraging healthier, more sustainable journeys.

Places to explore

From the vibrant capital city of Cardiff to the beautiful countryside and heritage of the Valleys, we help showcase the many places, attractions and experiences accessible by train across our region.

Projects that connect

Our community-led projects bring people together through art, culture, heritage and well-being, creating positive social and economic impact in communities along the routes we serve.
